In the Spring of 1987 the Tacoma Tsunamis Rugby program was formed. The Tsunamis were developed to bring awareness of the game we all love to a larger number of High School students in the Tacoma, Pierce County area.

In the Fall of 2006 the Harbour Rugby program was formed. First in 2006 the Hurricanes were developed for boys and in 2008 the Storm were developed for girls, all to bring awareness of the game to a larger number of High School students in the Gig Harbor area.

The Tacoma Rugby Club currently sponsor the Tsunamis and the Harbour programs. The Tsunamis and are led by veteran Nomad Steve Chanfrau and the Harbour program is led by veteran Nomad player Mark Wehn.

The Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs, the military rugby team of the Tacoma Rugby Club. The Ft. Lewis Studs Dawgs are made up of players from the Tacoma Rugby team and Puget Sound area, including Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM).

The Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs were formed when a military team was passing through Ft. Lewis in 1989 and wanted to play another military team in the area. Long time Tacoma Nomad Captain Mike Legg got most of the Army rugby guys together with a few extra Tacoma Nomads and played the match. The Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs were born. That was the beginning of Military Rugby on Ft. Lewis. The Stud Dawgs are named after Mike’s beloved pooch, Norman (R.I.P.).

The Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs activate several times throughtout the year to play other military sides in the area and to host visiting military sides from other countries when they tour the beautiful Puget Sound area. The Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs have a great history of play and good times.

The most recent sucess of the Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs was the annual Army-Navy game. This past year saw a comfortable victory 27 - 10 over the local Navy side from Bremerton.

For questions about the Ft. Lewis Stud Dawgs please contact,
