Tacoma Tsunamis

Boys and Girls Youth Rugby Program

Founded in 1989, Tacoma Tsunamis Rugby is a youth boys and girls rugby program that draws players from any school in the greater Tacoma-Puyallup-Lakewood area. We are members of the Tacoma Rugby Club, and play in the Rugby Washington league and USA Rugby. Our youth programs are a wonderful community of players, coaches, families, sponsors and friends who continue to make this such a positive youth program here in Tacoma.

Our contact rugby programs have also had a lot of success in recent years.

HS Boys: 2008 Pacific Northwest Champions (7th in the nation), 2016 Division 2 State Champions, 2017 Division 1 State Champions, 2018 Division 1 State Champions, 2019 Division 1 State Champions
HS Girls: 2018 State Champions, 2019 State Runners-Up

Our Youth Rugby Programs

Flag Rugby

Tacoma Tsunamis Rugby runs flag rugby programs for 4th and 5th grade boys and girls in select Tacoma Public Schools in conjunction with Metro Parks Tacoma. We plan on having teams at Jennie Reed and Boze Elementary schools. We also have program club teams in University Place, Tacoma, and Parkland. Practices are twice a week with tournaments between the school teams and the club teams every other Friday, May through mid-June.

REGISTRATION OPENS NOVEMBER 2024

Fall Girls 7's Rugby

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for U15 Girls (Grades 7-9) and High School Girls (Grades 10-12) teams play competitive contact seven-a-side rugby September through October. Practice are Tuesdays and Thursdays and starts in late August @ Portland Ave Park, Tacoma. Matches on Saturdays.

Dues collected here are for the Tacoma Tsunamis Rugby Club, there will be additional fees ($65 for U15, $80 for High School) to join USA Rugby which will be a requirement to attend camps or play in matches. Your coach will notify you through the 'Spond' app as to when you will need to make this payment.

Fall Co-ed U12 Rugby

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for U12 Co-ed Rugby (Grades 5-6). The team will play seven-a-side rugby September through October. Practice are Tuesdays and Thursdays and starts in late August @ Portland Ave Park, Tacoma. Matches on Saturdays.

Dues collected here are for the Tacoma Tsunamis Rugby Club, there will be additional fee ($68 for U12) to join USA Rugby which will be a requirement to attend camps or play in matches.

Spring Rugby (Full Contact)

We have teams for High School Boys, High School Girls, 7th/8th Grade Boys, 7th/Grade Girls, and a 5th/6th Grade Co-ed team for boys and girls. Practice starts in early February every Tuesday and Thursday, and matches start in March on Saturdays.

Our Coaches

Our coaches hail from USA, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa and have years of experience both playing and coaching. Our coaches are dedicated to Our Mission and hope our players can achieve that and more.

Our Mission

To build excellent young men and women by using rugby to develop life skills, including goal-setting, accountability, responsible decision making, and by holding players and coaches to high expectations. We create opportunities to apply these life skills to rugby, academics and character development and provide the support needed to take advantage of them.

Our Youth Teams

Our teams, consisting of high school and middle schoolers, plays in a highly competitive league against other teams throughout Washington, from Olympia to Bellingham and Shelton to Yakima. Our season runs from February to June culminating in the Washington State Championships.

Rugby Washington

Rugby Washington is a non-profit organization that administers youth rugby for the State of Washington. Tacoma Rugby Club's youth Tsunami team plays teams that are a part of this organization.
